Sleeping Venus on Mars – Mont Mercou is a surreal vision of a female flower found growing on Mars. The leaves are made up of 4 ball like petals, images of planet Mars.  The centre of the flower occupied by Sleeping Venus - represents the female as a flower flourishing in the environmental constraints of living on Mars.  Mont mercou was photographed by NASA's Curiosity Mars rover - April 15th 2021 - atop Mont Mercou a rock formation that offered a view into Gale Crater below.  The iconic image of the sleeping female - Sleeping Venus was originally painted in oils during the Italian Renaissance by the famous artist, Giorgione in 1510.

The original painting of Sleeping Venus was so unique for it's time . 'For such a pose and composition there was no precedent in the art of antiquity, or in Italian painting up to that date... All of them must acknowledge that Giorgione was the first to paint such a figure in such a pose, simply for the beauty of it.' Stonard, John- Paul, He was one of the greatest of all Venetian artists, but who was Giorgione? 11.03.2016. Sleeping Venus On Mars - Mont Mercou intends to reveal a beauty and serenity of the female form.  The naked and peaceful sleeping pose, at the centre of the metaphorical flower on Mars embedded in the alien landscape, reflects a female harmony with nature and the universe.
